Originating in the ancient history of the British Isles the story follows “little Sir John” from sprout to mug in lively verse with vivid imagery. In pre literate times, this traditional English folk tale served as both an entertaining ballad and an oral primer on barley cultivation and the brewing of ale. Popular among the strolling minstrels of Chaucer’s time the ballad has survived the centuries and is still sung today in many versions
