We did it again! We are very proud to announce that MAD RIVER BREWING COMPANY gathered an armload of awards at the 2003 California State Fair. This year the competition included more than sixty breweries in a variety of flavor categories.
The California Fair Commercial Craft Brewing Competition awarded our Steelhead Scotch Porter a Gold Certificate. Our Steelhead Extra Stout received a second consecutive Silver Certificate, and our Steelhead Extra Pale Ale won a Bronze Certificate.
In addition to our STEELHEAD and JAMAICA brews, Mad River offers a seasonal barley wine called “John Barleycorn”. This years creation is the thirteenth in the series and will be available in six packs starting mid November. The brewers at Mad River use their creativity to develop a unique recipe for this once a year brew. Each year’s release sports a different label in a series that tells the tale of “John Barleycorn” in verse and folksy woodcut art. John Barleycorn is brewed in small 17-barrel batches using the finest ingredients available. Our brewers used certified Organic malts along with three varieties of whole hop flowers. This high gravity crowd pleaser has a rich dark amber coloring and an abv of 9.6.
